Lower extremity angioplasty & stenting

Your vascular specialist at South Palm Cardiovascular Associates may recommend angioplasty and stenting in the lower extremities to treat your PAD. Angioplasty and stenting helps to treat arteries affected with atherosclerosis (plaque buildup).

Lower extremity angioplasty and stenting is done in the cardiac cath lab via catheter access at the groin. Catheters can be carefully navigated to the diseased area where a balloon can be inflated to perfrom angioplasty. Typically following this, a stent is deployed at the treated area to serve as a ‘scaffold’ to keep the vessel open after the treatment.

Our physicians at South Palm Cardiovascular Associates are experts at performing successful angioplasty and stenting procedures to effectively treat PAD. If this procedure is recommended for you, your doctor will take the time to fully inform you beforehand, and closely monitor your progress and provide follow-up care for as long as you need it.
