Varicose & Spider Veins

Varicose & Spider Veins Treatment in Boynton Beach, FL

Varicose veins and spider veins are similar types of vein abnormalities, but do have some important differences. Spider veins occur in clusters on the calf, ankle or thigh, and may appear red, blue, or purple. Spider veins are very common, affecting an estimated 50 percent of adult female women. They are generally only a cosmetic concern and are not medically significant, although some patients do experience a degree of pain, burning, or itching from spider veins. Lying very close to the skin surface, these veins are connected to the circulatory system but not essential to circulation.

Varicose (from the Latin ‘varix,’ twisted) veins are larger than spider veins and usually bulge outwards from the leg skin surface, appearing blue in color and often having a twisted or cord-like appearance. Although many visible varicose veins do not cause any pain or discomfort, others cause leg swelling, aches and cramping as the condition worsens and more and more blood flows backward.

Fortunately, there are many effective treatments for spider and varicose veins. Most treatments can be provided on an outpatient basis, have few side effects or complications, produce little or no pain, and allow patients to resume their normal activities very quickly.

At South Palm Cardiovascular Associates, our vascular experts and vein surgeons use advanced, minimally invasive treatments to restore healthy legs without the need for a hospital stay. Your skilled SPCVA physician will be happy to discuss the treatment options available, depending on your specific medical needs.
